Damon Tweedy is the writer of the book called Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor's Reflections on Race and Medicine. He graduated from Duke University School of Medicine and is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Duke's medical center. He is also staff physician at the Durham Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
He has published articles about race and medicine in the New York Times, Washington Post Chicago Tribune, and Raleigh News & Observer, as well as in various medical journals. He lives outside Raleigh-Durham, NC, with his family.
University of Oregon law professor Nancy Shurtz dressed up as Tweedy in a 2016 Halloween costume that included Blackface and an Afro wig. It did not go over well.
