Chyna Gibson, also known as, Chyna Doll Dupree, was a Transgender woman who performed in drag shows across the country. [1]
Personal life & Activities
Chyna was born in Sacramento, California and raised in New Orleans. She grew up in the St. Bernard public housing development.
She started becoming interested in being a performer when she was still a high schooler.
She was in love with bounce music and joined a local dance group called the Body Rockers.
She experienced Hurricane Katrina which forced her to move to Atlanta, Georgia in 2005. While living in a new city like Atlanta, she debuted doing her first major show at the Jungle Club. She fell in love with the excitement of being on stage.
Her popularity as a drag performer increased in the city of Houston, Texas.
Death
On Saturday, February 25, 2016, at around 8:30 p.m., Gibson walked to Downman Road to Bella Plaza shopping center and into a boutique store to pick up a dress she planned to wear later that evening for Mardi Gras. She was gunned down at the plaza. New Orleans Police found her body with several bullet wounds lying between two cars parked in front of a clothing store. [1]
She had just arrived to New Orleans after being in California for some to visit her family.
A vigil was held on the 28th of February, 2017 in Sacramento, California.
