Christopher Hixon was an American retired U.S Navy MM1 and notable Athletic director who was known for being an uplifting motivator. Hixon was one of the 17 victims who lost their lives in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting.
Biography
Early Life
Hixon was born and raised in the state of Pennsylvania for most of his early life. His parents were Russell and Toni. He leaves behind a sister named Natali. [1]
Hixon attended Easton Area High School until the 10th grade. He would later graduate from Pleasant Valley High School. [1]
Personal life & Family
Hixon was a long time resident of the state of Florida. He lived in town of Hollywood, Florida in Broward County with his wife Debbie. He leaves behind two sons, Thomas (Ines) and Corey. He was also a grandfather of two.
Military
In 1986, Hixon joined the U.S. Navy and would later transition into the Naval Reserves in 1992. He retired on October 2013. [1]
From 2006-2012, he acted as the MM1 for the U.S. Navy. During this time, he and his son, Thomas, served together in support of the Navy security forces. He served in Key West as well as the Navy Operational Support Center Miami.
His awards and decorations include 3 Navy Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Reserve Meritorious Service Medal and Navy Reserve Medal.
He served in the Persian Gulf during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Career

For many years, Hixon served as Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School wrestling coach. He also served as the athletic director at South Broward High School before taking over the role of intellectuals functional director at Stoneman Douglas High School.
His work as a motivator in sports and athletics throughout the Broward Educational district led him to become a reputable figure in educational sports.

Shooting
On February 14ht, 2018, Hixon lost his life in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting. He was one of the first people to attempt to apprehend the shooter, Nikolas Cruz. When the school needed someone to patrol the campus and monitor threats as a security specialist, Hixon took the job. It was in that security role that Hixon apparently came within range of the shooter.
