Ana Carolina Barcellos Cortes (popularly known as Carol Barcellos) is a sports presenter from Brazil, currently working at the Brazilian TV channel 'Globo's' show 'Planeta Extremo'.

Carol was born to sports presenter Caco Barcellos ^[4]and was always a star student in her family.

When pursuing higher education, she was confused between Economics, Law and Journalism. She soon ruled out economics and studied journalism at university, where she took a healthy mix of both journalism and economics modules. She obtained her bachelors degree in journalism from the Fuliminese Federal University (UFF). Interestingly, although her father was himself a famous journalist in Brazil, he was not too keen on her pursuing this profession. However, despite his trying to convince her against it, she was adamant about becoming a Journalist.

Her initial plan was to become an economic journalist and work in print journalism, at a magazine like Jornal do Brasil. However, she soon found herself drawn to the sport field. While she admits she was always interested in sports, she says she was never in the habit of keeping up with sporting news. In spite of this, she found no difficulty in landing a job in the field of Sports journalism, where she has continued since. ^[4]

After her graduation in 2005, she has worked with SporTV ('Impact Zone') and TV Globo, which she initially joined as an intern in 2007 and then, continued as a full time presenter for 'Planeta Extremo' and earlier, 'Esporte Espectacular'. ^[0]

Carol is married to sports journalist Bruno Cortes and has a daughter, Julia Cortes who was born in 2012.

^[0]As she travels extensively, she urges her husband to stay at home and take care of her daughter.

She regularly talks to her husband and daughter over skype and call, although she has reported that it distresses her that she is not able to spend much time with them.

She is very dependent on her mother and whenever Julia and Bruno travel, they do so with Carol's mother by their side.

Both Carol and Bruno are fitness and sports enthusiasts and have been pictured exercising and training together on the beach, on several occasions.

Barcellos was in Nepal during the Nepal earthquake, while shooting for an episode of 'Planeta Extremo' and inadvertently became a live reporter of the event, on the ground, for a majority of the Brazilian population. ^[3]Barcellos, whose birthday was celebrated in Nepal soon after, admits that the experience made her see life differently having made her aware of the transience of it and that she still thinks of it every day. ^[1]
