Bruce Cook
Bruce Cook is a paraplegic freestyle motocross (FMX) rider from Toronto, Canada who tours with the motocycle stunt group Nitro Circus. He is known for being the first paraplegic to backflip a dirt bike.
Career
On January 3, 2014, Bruce Cook broke his back and lost the use of his legs while attempting the world's first double front flip on a dirt bike.
The accident happened at a Nitro Circus Live show in Hamilton, Ontario.
When Bruce crashed Body bent backward, breaking his T-11 vertebra and paralyzing him from the waist down. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for surgery. Bruce spent the next 66 days after the crash in hospital recovering.
Nine months after his accident, Cook returned to riding a modified bike that allows him to strap himself in meaning that he can't push away from the bike if something goes wrong, making stunts more dangerous.
He also started touring with Nitro Circus again.
On October 15, 2015, just one month after he started riding again, he did the world's first paraplegic back flip on a motorcycle during a Nitro Circus show.
A television special called Can’t: The Bruce Cook Story was created about Bruce Cook's achievements and his struggle recovering from his accident . The special aired on July 10, 2016, via NBC, at 3:30 pm EST / 12:30 pm PST.
