Brittany Wagner
Brittany B. Wagner is one of the stars of the Netflix original mini-series Last Chance U. [1] She is the football academic advisor and head cheerleading coach at Eastern Mississippi Community College.
Education
In 1996 Wagner graduated from Clinton High School and began attending Samford University. In 1998 she transferred to Mississippi State University and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor’s in Sports Studies.
In 2004 she graduated from Mississippi State University with a Master’s in Sports Administration.
Career
In 2002 she started working in the Jacksonville State University Athletic Department.
In 2004 she started working at the Mississippi State University.
Since 2009 she has been working at East Mississippi Community College, where has been serving as an athletic instructional advisor and compliance assistant. She has worked in the NCAA and NJCAA for over a decade. Her role focuses on ensuring the football players succeed both academically and athletically.
She founded Gradesfirst in 2014 as a means of helping college athletes succeed in the classroom.
On July 29, 2016, Netflix released a mini-series titled Last Chance U, following Eastern Mississippi Community College's football program as an institution that attracts former Division 1 players who did not cut it for some reason or another. Wagner has been praised for her role in the players' lives. [1]
In February 2017, Wagner left her post at East Mississippi Community College and started pursuing other ventures. In June of the same year, inspired by her famous "Do you have a pencil?" quote, she launched a company called 10 Thousand Pencils. Using that same quote, she now utilizes her platform to motivate individuals everywhere.[33] Since starting her own venture, Wagner's clients have included Ole Miss Rebels, Coca-Cola, and the University of Arkansas.[34]
Over the last few years, Brittany has traveled all over the United States as a motivational speaker.[33]
Personal Life
She was married to Mark White, the former head basketball coach of Eastern Mississippi Community College, and together they have a daughter, Kennedy Grier.
Currently, she resides in Birmingham, Alabama, where she is raising her daughter alone.[33]
She has gone on record saying Making of a Murder is one of her favorite Netflix shows.
As of 2020, Michael Strahan's production company is currently developing a show based on Brittany and her time at EMCC and 'Last Chance U.' It will air on Spectrum, with Courteney Cox in the leading role, portraying her.[33]
