Brittany Favre
Brittany Favre (born February 6, 1989) is an American lawyer and philanthropist who specializes in sports and entertainment law. She is the daughter of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre. [2]
Personal Life
Childhood
Brittany is the daughter of ex-NFL quarterback Brett Favre and author Deanna Tynes Favre. She was born on February 6, 1989 in Mississippi to the young couple-Brett being 19 and Deanna, 20. Brittany has one sister named Breleigh.[1]
Her mother Deanna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and within a year of chemotherapy was able to beat the disease. Brittany's mom then created the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation. The foundation was later merged with her husband Brett's, creating the charitable foundation Favre4hope.[3]
Brittany spent a lot of her childhood in different NFL stadiums around the country. During her father's career in the league, he had played for the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Jets. Reminiscing on her childhood, Brittany said,[1]
"I look back on it now and wish that I had done more to take it all in, but I think that what made it so special was that it wasn't some mesmerizing experience.
It was comfortable.
It was normal for me to walk into the training room in the evenings with Dad, grab a handful of the gum they always kept on the counter and wander around the facilities.
It didn't seem like a worthwhile story to tell my friends that I ran around the hallways of one of the most famous stadiums in the country, because it was another home."
Family Life
Brittany has a son with her ex-husband Patrick Valkenburg.
The boy, Parker, was born on April 2, 2010.
She divorced from her firstborn's father the following year in 2011 and became involved with Alex Mallion.
She credits Alex as one of the reasons she stayed in school and the two have a child, AJ, together.[1]
"About five months after I thought my life had fallen apart, I met Alex.
He's the reason I didn't quit after my first year.
My school was just under two hours from home, so I would stay in New Orleans a few nights during the week to go to class and study.
I would go through these phases where I just felt lonely and selfish for leaving Parker, and Alex had a way of calming me and helping me remember the purpose of this struggle.
I married Alex my second year.
My third year, we had a baby boy, AJ."
On how childbirth changed her perspective, Brittany stated in an interview with Bleacher Report published on June 3, 2015,[1]
"I realized that before Parker was born, I was selfish.
Really selfish.
Parker became my world and my motivation, and when I realized his future was in my hands, all I wanted to do was give him everything.
I also knew that giving him everything was only possible if he had a confident and successful mom."
Education
Brittany studied at the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in 2012 with a bachelors degree in psychology. She then attended Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and graduated in 2015. Brittany's childhood dream was to be a lawyer, she mused in a 2015 article,[1]
"I've wanted to be a lawyer since I was a kid.
I looked at successful lawyers the same way aspiring athletes look at my dad.
Naturally, I've changed paths a few times, but it was more to do with my level of self-confidence and less to do with my dream of becoming a lawyer.
I had a little too much fun my first two years of college, so I didn't think getting accepted to law school would be an option."
During the time she attended college, her father was embroiled in a texting scandal where he sent numerous women inappropriate text messages.[16]
Her first year in college she had her first child, Parker.
By her third year attending Loyola University New Orleans College of Law she had divorced her husband and had a second child with her current husband, Alex Mallion. Brittany admitted her college experience was tough,[1]
"I went into law school a terribly broken person, and I came out with a family, stronger than I've ever been.
The experience was so much more than just earning a law degree.
I had to change, to grow up, and to stop feeling sorry for myself when I felt overwhelmed or when things didn't go my way.
I had too many people counting on me and too many people supporting me (like my beautiful "Maw Maw," who helped with the boys every time I needed her) to let everyone down."
Career
Brittany started out her career as an attorney in a small firm located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was formerly a partner at Lockley, Slawson, & Mallion Law Firm.[10]
In 2016 she made an appearance on a sports documentary series that aired on the NFL Network. On a season 6 episode of A Football Life Brittany discussed her father's legacy in the league.
