Benjamin Marconi was a Police officer for the San Antonio Police Department. Marconi was a 20 year veteran of the department.
He was the father of two children, and the son of James Marconi, a retired San Antonio Police Department officer. He is of white and Hispanic descent.
Death
On November 20, 2016, Officer Marconi was ambushed and shot dead during a traffic stop near the San Antonio Police Department's headquarters.
The unidentified gunman pulled up on Detective Benjamin Marconi’s patrol car after the officer stopped another vehicle for a traffic violation. Police believe the vehicle originally stopped by the officer was not involved in the shooting.
The shooting occurred about 11:40 a.m. local time on West Nueva Street near Santa Rosa Street in Houston, Texas. He was in his patrol car writing a traffic citation when the gunman drove up near him.
The shooter got out of his car, walked up to the patrol car and fired once into the vehicle.
He then reached into the car and fired a second time.
He was shot twice, including at least once in the head.
Perpetrator
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a hoodie and baggy pants. He also has a beard and is approximately 5'7.
Police are still investigating a motive.
A $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest has been offered by San Antonio CrimeStoppers.
