Astik Sherchan

Fashion designer Astik Sherchan was born in 1986 in Kathmandu.

At nineteen, he went to Paris to attend the fashion school Le Studio Bercot.

During his student years, he participated in the creation of Jesuisalamode.com, a website dedicated to fashion videos and short films.

He also interned for MUUSA, a private children's clothing and accessories label.

After graduating, he was hired by Studio XXb in Public Relations.

The company organized Vendome Luxury accessories exhibition at Park Hyatt and Le Meurice during Paris Fashion Week.

During his tenure of two years, the exhibition's roster of clients grew from 40 to over 60 accessories and jewelry brands and expanded to Hotel D'Evereux, 19 Place Vendome.

He also helped organized contemporary art shows for Vendome Luxury featuring diverse themes such as culinary design and brick art, as well as cocktail events with celebrities and fashion personalities.

Designing clothes remained a passion, however.

His work at Vendome Luxury brought him into contact with buyers and press from all over the world.

Encouraged by their feedback, he returned to Kathmandu to establish his own atelier.

In 2011, he participated in Kathmandu Fashion Parade, his first runway show in Nepal.

On the wake of its success, he launched his label Astik Designs and opened his showroom in Lazimpat.

He is currently in the process of building Astik Designs into a socially responsible brand of international repute.

His runway shows have raised funds for various charities including CNN Hero Pushpa Basnet's ECDC which supports children of imprisoned parents and SUNGAVA, dedicated to children with special needs.

He also freelances for other clothing brands and companies.

He maintains a blog where his work can be viewed at astikdesigns.blogspot.com.
