Early Life & Education
Karbasfrooshan grew up in Quebec.
He attended Collège International Marie de France.
After that, he graduated from Concordia University in 1999 with a Bachelor's degree in Finance.[0]
Career
Early Beginnings
Ashkan started his career as an in-house finance analyst at Mamma (search engine), one of the original meta-search engines on the web.[5]After a short stint, he transitioned to the online publishing industry.
Writing
Ashkan Karbasfrooshan spent the first half of the 2000's writing hundreds of columns within the entertainment industry.
He also wrote two books: Course to Success: Everything You Need to Succeed Beyond School (published in 2002) and The Confessions of Alexander the Great: 33 Lessons in Greatness (published in 2004).[2] [3]
Since then, he has published weekly columns on new media, online video content, and entrepreneurship on websites like TechCrunch and MediaPost.[0] [5] [7]
AskMen
In September 2000, Karbasfrooshan became a writer for AskMen, an online web portal for men.[0]He wrote an estimated 1,000 columns which were featured on websites among the likes of MSN.com and AOL.com.
He also served as a celebrity interviewer, interviewing people like Joe Montana and Hugh Hefner.
Eventually, he eventually became the VP of Sales, generating $8 million in ad sales.
The company was eventually acquired by IGN Entertainment. [0]
WatchMojo
In January 2006, Ashkan Karbasfrooshan founded WatchMojo.com, a video content producer best known for their top 10 lists.
In October 2016, he published his third book, The 10-Year Overnight Success: An Entrepreneurship's Manifesto – How WatchMojo Built the Most Successful Media Brand on YouTube.[1]
Awards & Accomplishments
In 2015, Karbasfrooshan was the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the 'Media & Entertainment' category for the Quebec region.
