On May 22nd of 2017, Pop Star Ariana Grande played a concert at Manchester Arena. Around 10:40-10:45 pm after Ariana finished her last song and left the stage, 2 explosions went off in the arena, causing extreme panic. [0]There are reports of 22 dead and 59 people injured from the attack. [3]
Suicide Bombing
At around 10:35 PM, immediately after Ariana Grande performed a concert, there was a loud bang when the lights came on.
According to witnesses, there were thousands of people trying to vacate the venue at once.
They were screaming and crying, and the whole arena smelt smokey and burnt.
An official spokesperson for Ariana Grande said she and her band were uninjured.
The police have determined that the attack was a Suicide Bombing conducted by U.K. national Salman Abedi. [20]Authorities are trying to determine whether if was a lone-wolf attack or a coordinated effort. [23]
Manchester's Victoria station, which backs onto the arena, was evacuated and all trains cancelled.
Heavily armed police, emergency services and bomb disposal arrived to maintain the safety.
The arena has a capacity of 21,000, and many of the attendees were young girls.
