Anna Barnard was an 18-year-old international exchange student who attended Bethany Christian Schools. She lived in Goshen, Indiana but was originally from Leuven, Belgium. [11]
Life and Education
Barnard has studied at several schools across the United States and most recently lived with her family in England. During her time at Bethany Christian Schools, Barnard was well-liked by her peers stood out as a student and athlete. The senior student played an important role in leading the school's girl's soccer team sectional soccer championship and made considerable contributions to the girl's basketball team, a sport that she had only recently picked up. In addition, Barnard was a teacher's assistant in a fourth-grade classroom and was a positive mentor to those children. [1]
Death
On December 18th at around 4:00 pm, Barnard was riding as a passenger on Indiana State Road 23 by St. Pious Catholic Church when the small sedan she was in driving eastbound lost control and collided the van driving westbound. [12]Barnard was trapped until rescuers retrieved her from the vehicle. She later died at the hospital from her injuries. An investigation is ongoing by the St. Joseph County Fatal Accident Crash Team. [13]
