Angela McArdle

Angela McArdle

Angela McArdle is a Congressional candidate for California's 34th District representing the Libertarian Party.

McArdle has a long history of volunteer activity for the homeless.

She is known for her opposition to Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge' s 2013 motion prohibiting anyone from feeding the homeless in public rights of way.

Early Life & Personal

Angela was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, grew up in Texas, and moved to California with her family at the age of 15.

Angela was exposed to Libertarianism in southern California after a conversation with a local musician, Tom, lead singer of the Over Reactors.

Going forward, Angela began looking into the philosophy and beliefs of Libertarianism.

Later in life, Angela was influenced by the Ron Paul campaign and began to consider involvement in politics.

Angela is also a vegan and proponent of the non aggression principle.

Education

McArdle is a graduate of Biola University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational leadership.

She also has a Paralegal Certificate from UCLA Extension, a certificate she completed in 2013.

Career in Law

After graduating from Biola, Angela began working in litigation.

In her first few years of litigation, she dealt with debt collection, employment lawsuits, and loan sharking.

She litigated fraudulent lending cases and learned of how the federal reserve’s money meddling unhinged the housing market and in how government bailouts poured salt in the wounds of everyone who lost their homes.

Angela transitioned to working as a legal aid and started providing eviction defense years after her work in litigation.

Many of the people who used to be homeowners were bumped down the financial ladder to renter status.

Instead of dealing with mortgages, now they dealt with landlords, and on a tighter budget.

Angela examined how these problems affected renters and consumers.

Many times she helped small business owners file their formation papers and launch a business that soon after a year would be shut down due to the crushing weight of zoning fees, special fillings costs, and a tax forever level of government.

For years Angela has known and connected with people facing similar troubles - going up against court rules and an intrusive, over-reaching government.

Due to the series of incidents of people losing their homes she witnessed first-hand, she has been a committed volunteer with the homeless people in Los Angeles, California.

She is currently a Senior Paralegal at JHK Law Group.

She specializes in real estate and tenant's rights litigation.

McArdle also runs a private practice as a registered Legal Document Assistant for Los Angeles County.

She has a part-time job as a craniosacral therapist.

Activist Work for the Homeless

She became part of two grassroots organizations dedicated to the well-being of homeless people in Downtown Los Angeles: Monday Night Mission and Food Not Bombs. She passed out food - often vegan- to people who were homeless and living in transitional housing. When they tried to have a government program into the services, they would often be met with disappointment.

In 2013, together with the two aforementioned grassroots organizations, they were able to overturn a law that mandates that it would be illegal to feed homeless people.

They collaborated on a huge protest of nearly 800 people in Hollywood near the offices of the council member who proposed the motion. They also successfully fought it in public. The motion was not passed. She often uses this example as a way to show how government laws and regulations can be detrimental to people.

Xavier Becerra has been elected as Attorney general of California and had to resign on January 24th, 2017. Jerry Brown appointed him after Kamala Harris became the state's junior U.S. Senator.

Due to her experience in litigation and legal practice, as well as her time helping the homeless due to the inefficiency of government services, she became one of the prominent candidates for the seat.

The district encompasses all of Downtown Los Angeles.

Libertarian

She questions whether the system must be failing due to the way dispossessed people overcrowd lists meant for assistance, the broken promises made by the government, and the endless bureaucratic doors to break down.

For these reasons, since she is not an American conservative Republican, nor is she a Democrat Liberal, she has decided to run as a Libertarian. She aims to follow the Nonaggression principle and to limit the Government interference into people's life.

Angela believes in shrinking the government dramatically and having a "different" government.

She strongly wants to work with people and feels she is fearless in the discussion of how many institutions in place do not help, but instead hurt people.

She doesn't believe that the homeless problem in Downtown Los Angeles is a people vs. government issue, and instead of addressing the problem through her own political agenda of being Libertarian, she is adamant in making the issue a Humanist one.

She's confident she can represent the interests of all Californians in The house of representatives. She is committed to do her part to help subdue the federal government that shakes off the real problems people face each day as they go after power.

If she gets elected, the first thing she wants to do when she steps into office is to commit to not passing any legislation that is enacting new laws.

She also wants drugs laws to be more at ease.

She wants to have something close to an open border policy for immigrants with a removal of incentives for people to stay and not work so hard.

She has a GoFundMe account where the donations will go to her campaign.
