Assault by Joe Mixon

On July 25, 2014, Joe Mixon, a star football player at OU punched Amelia Molitor in the face breaking four bones in her face and knocking her to the ground. The assault required Amelia to undergo 8 hours of surgery on her face, and have her jaw wired shut for months. [1]

The assault happened the day after Amelia's birthday at 2 a.m at Pickleman's Cafe, which is located near the OU campus.

[1]

Mixon, who had turned 18 the day before, walked into Pickleman's.

Molitor told police Mixon, whom she did not know, directed a homosexual slur at her friend.

Molitor shoved Mixon, who lunged back with a closed fist at his side.

Molitor slapped at Mixon, who then hit her with a right hook that knocked Molitor off her feet.

Her head slammed into a table as she fell to the ground.

She suffered fractures in her jaw, cheekbone and other bones in her face.

[1]

Mixon claimed that Moiltor had been intoxicated and had used racial slurs against him prior to the assault.

Mixon and his teammates had been at Pickleman's to celebrate a recent football win.

After the assult they left Pickleman's immediately.

He was there less than 30 seconds.

Friends took Molitor to Norman Regional Hospital, where she was treated and released several hours later.

On December 16, 2016 surveillance video of the incident was released under court order to the press.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled 8-1 on Dec. 6 that the video showing the punch is a public record. Justices said the city of Norman must release that video to the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters.

Joe Mixon took a pleading agreement in 2015, which allowed him to legally maintain innocence while acknowledging prosecutors had the evidence to convict him of misdemeanor assault.

His victim filed a civil lawsuit against him in July.

OU suspended Mixon for the entire 2014 season but reinstated him for 2015, and he’s played the last two years

Under a plea deal, he was put on probation for a year.

He also was required to complete 100 hours of community service and undergo cognitive behavior counseling.
