She is currently a Tony Blankley Fellow at the Steamboat Institute.[1]
In January 2020, Athey joined The Spectator as a Washington editor. Freddy Gray, an editor at Spectator, wrote in an article announcing the news:
I’m delighted to announce that Amber Athey is The Spectator’s new Washington editor, joining us from the Daily Caller next month.
We’re thrilled to have her on board.
Amber is a highly talented and accomplished young journalist and a very gifted writer.
She’s been an excellent White House Correspondent for the Caller, where she’s broken countless great stories and regularly questioned the president, Mike Pompeo, Steve Mnuchin and other officials.
She has already written some excellent stuff for us and she’ll be invaluable in giving The Spectator a presence in DC.[5]
In an interview with Politico, Athey told about her start in journalism:
The first writing gig I ever had was for my local newspaper when I was still a college student.
The editor decided to give me a monthly political column after reading one of my blog posts, and that eventually morphed into a side-by-side debate feature with an opponent several decades my senior!”[6]
In February 2020, The Spectator announced Athey would be hosting Conservative Political Action Conference's ‘What’s the Right Path Forward on Big Tech?’, a discussion between House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, junior senator from Missouri Josh Hawley and eldest son of the president, Donald Trump Jr.[7]
Personal Life
Athey enjoys listening to country music. She is proud to be a Georgetown University alumna and supports Georgetown Hoyas sports.[1]
