Allen Jacobs was an American police officer, decorated Iraq war veteran, husband and father from Greenville, South Carolina.
Personal
Prio r to joining the Greenville Police Department, he served in the U.S.
Army.
He was a decorated Iraq war veteran.
Officer Jacobs joined the GPD in August 2011, and in August 2015, was promoted to the rank of Police Officer III.
In addition to serving on the Community Response Team, he was also a member of the S.W.A.T. team.
He was married and had two young boys, expecting a daughter in July.
Death
Officer Jacobs was killed in the line of duty on March 18, 2016 as he attempted to serve a warrant.
[0]Jacobs died in a hail of gunfire while chasing a confirmed and self-described gang member who then turned the gun on himself.
Officer Jacobs and his partner were on patrol when they spotted Deontea Perry Mackey behind a house in Nicholtown and pulled over for a field interview.
Mackey bolted and led officers on a foot chase behind houses and through woods.
Jacobs was struck multiple times, despite wearing a bulletproof vest when he caught up to Mackey.
Jacobs did not fire first at Mackey and was found with his firearm till on his holster when officers arrived.
