Aisling Keenan
Aisling Keenan is a freelance journalist from Dublin, Ireland [1]. She has a passion for all things in the beauty industry and has worked in high fashion with branding, editorial shoots, and has been a regular on radio and television.
Education
Keenan graduated from Dublin City University in 2009 with a Bachelor's of Art with Honors in Journalism. While in college, she was a sub-editor and arts editor for Flashback magazine, and a writer for The College View. In college, Keenan acquired the skills in media production and presentation that would allow her to begin her career in radio, print, and online journalism.
Career
During College, she interned for SPIN 1038 and Stellar (magazine) to build her resume before being offered a beauty column in the Irish Independent at the age of 21. Following this line of work, she then worked for U magazine for five years. As a Staff Editor, she produced and wrote all of the beauty pages and occasionally wrote some features, news, and interviews. She also monitored and moderated the U magazine's Facebook and Twitter profiles, as well as the website. From U magazine, she learned how to coordinate photo-shoots and how to organize and run annual award ceremonies, including the annual Beauty Awards.
While working for U magazine, Keenan would guest edit and write articles for other companies.
These have included directing a beauty and jewelry extravaganza for Weir and Sons, being interviewed for Frillseeker about what a beauty editor spends her own money on, a beauty column for Weekend magazine, along with being invited to try new products before they hit the shelves.
Her pieces focus on connecting with the younger audience in a friendly and professional way, showing that she herself has flaws and doesn't stick to the beauty regimen that she talks so frequently about.
After leaving U Magazine, Keenan became Deputy Editor and then Editor for Xposé Magazine and XPOSÉ Beauty Bible. With Xposé, Keenan made regular appearances talking about beauty tips and products. XPOSÉ Beauty Bible allowed Keenan to show her talent as an editor with her layouts of the magazine and the high quality products and photography that are chosen. Keenan's work is seen by millions of women in Ireland who read her magazines and see her on television. Her stylized layouts on beauty show the latest fashions, new make-up tips, and new products. She was nominated for New Beauty Journalist of the Year at the Johnson & Johnson Beauty Journalism Awards in London.
She currently is working for a variety of brands and publications doing some writing, editing and subbing, filming video beauty tips, populating websites with quality content and producing and directing photo-shoots.
Personal
She is a self-described lover of Beyoncé and is always looking for the perfect blow-dry. Her favorite accessories are a scarf and her leather jacket. Although she works in the fashion and beauty industry, she feels the most comfortable in jeans, a hoodie, and "a good pair of runners". Keenan is also an Irish brush lettering beginner and shows her passion for handwriting and calligraphy with her Le Grá Lettering Instagram account.
In September 2016, Keenan was featured in the news when she was waiting for a coworker when a man tried to force his way into her car.
In August 2017 she will be marrying her boyfriend of 12 years, Dean Murphy.
