Ahmaud Arbery (born 05/08/1994) is a man from Brunswick, Georgia.
On February 23, 2020, he was chased down and killed by a former police officer and his son while he was jogging in a Brunswick neighborhood.[1]
Biography
Ahmaud Marquez Arbery, who was also known as “Quez”, was born on May 8, 1994, in Brunswick, Georgia[2].
He is an African American whose mother's name is Wanda Cooper and father's name is Marcus Arber. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was humble, kind, and well mannered. He loved sports; basketball and football were his top choices.
Ahmaud was among the graduating class of 2012 at Brunswick High School. He later attended South Georgia Technical College in Americus, Georgia.
He was killed while jogging in a neighborhood outside Brunswick and his funeral was held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at New Springfield Baptist Church 1996 Howard Mill Rd[2].
Video Footage
A 36-second video of the occurrence shows an unarmed Arbery running down a street, towards a pickup truck that has halted before him.
The individual account the video is in a moving vehicle that stops behind the truck.
Two men are at the truck: Gregory McMichael is on the truck bed, and Travis McMichael moves out of the driver's side with a shotgun.
Arbery runs on the correct side of the truck, passes its front, and turns left.
The video seems to show that a shot is fired before Arbery begins to battle with Travis McMichael.
A portion of the battle happens offscreen.
Arbery seems to toss punches and attempted to snatch the shotgun.
Two additional shots are discharged during the battle.
Arbery steps from the battle, at that point breakdown face-down onto the street.
Travis McMichael leaves, blank.
George McMichael, who had taken out a handgun yet not discharged, at that point runs towards the pair[4].
Justice For Ahmaud Arbery
The death of Ahmaud Arbery has generated a lot of concerns, as there have been demands for justice from various quarters (family, civil rights group, and concerned persons).
According to a police report, the two men, Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis McMichael, 34, had grabbed their weapons, a.357 Magnum revolver, and a shotgun, jumped into a truck and began following Arbery after seeing him run by and eventually killing him[5].
There have been no charges against George McMichael and his son involved in the incident.
The case is under Tom Durden, the district attorney for the Atlantic Judicial Circuit.
The family's attorney, S. Lee Merritt, said in a statement that the two men involved in the chase and murder of Ahmaud Arbery "must be taken into custody pending their indictment.[6]"
Also, the Governor of Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp has publicly declared on his Twitter account that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has offered resources to Durden for his investigation. "Georgians deserve answers"[3].
A crowd gathered in Satilla River, Georgia, in response to the horrifying video of Ahmaud Arbery being murdered. They were chanting “WE WANT JUSTICE”

In a letter shared by District Attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit Jackie Johnson, District Attorney Tom Durden, of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit made the recommendation Tuesday, May 5:
"After careful review of the evidence presented... I am of the opinion that the case should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn County for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr. Arbery.[3]"
