Manu K. Vora

Manu K. Vora (born 1945) is a business entrepreneur, educator, philanthropist, and a thought leader.
Vora is the Chairman and President of Business Excellence Inc, USA (an international quality management consulting firm).
Education
Vora has a Ph.D and M.S in Chemical Engineering (from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago), and MBA in Marketing Management (from Keller Graduate School of Management, Chicago) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (from IIT BHU, India).
Academics
Between 1993 and 2005, Vora was an Adjunct Professor for the MBA Program at the IIT Stuart School of Business.
From 2008 to 2012, he has held the same role at the College of Business, Northern Illinois University.
From 2008 to present he is an Adjunct Faculty at the School of Professional Studies at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois where he teaches "Quality Assurance Project Management" course.
Since 2006 he has been a visiting professor at Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, India teaching the Total Quality Management course in the MBA programs.
He is affiliated with over 70 educational institutions around the world.
He is a sought after speaker on business excellence and quality management topics for local, regional, national, and international audiences.
He has over 525 presentations around the world in Africa, Asia Pacific, Caribbean & Central America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the United States.
In 2005, he authored “Managing Human Capital” chapter in the Six Sigma for Transactions and Service book published by McGraw-Hill.
In 2013, he gave two TEDx Talks (TEDxIITBHU, Varanasi, India and TEDxIIT Chicago).
He has published over 60 articles in professional journals and conference proceedings.
He has shared his Leadership Excellence Series focusing on life-long transferable soft skills and quality management knowledge to over 130,00 people globally.
Vora taught ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preparation classes at AT&T Bell Laboratories (now Lucent Technologies), to create 89 CQEs.
Board memberships
Vora served on the Board of Directors of ASQ from 1996 to 2002, the last two years as a Vice President of ASQ.
Vora sits on the Board of Advisors of the Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) Program at the Broome Community College in Binghamton, NY since 2006.
Awards
In November 2015, he received "Distinguished Alumnus Award" from Banaras Hindu University (his alma mater).
In June 2015 (and June 200), he received the Paul Harris Fellow Medal from the Rotary Foundation.
In May 2015, he was honored by the ASQ with an Ishikawa Medal for his work on Human Side of Quality[4]
In 2014 Vora was selected by the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO) for the Harrington/Ishikawa Medal which is “given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the advancement of quality in the Asia Pacific region.”

In 2013 he received the ASQ Spencer Hutchens Medal for Social Responsibility.
In 2012, the Illinois Institute of Technology presented him with the Alumni Medal.
In 2011, the National Ethic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) awarded Vora the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for “outstanding contributions to [his] community, nation and the world.”[2] Also that year he received the U.S.
President’s Call to Service Award.
In 2010, he received ASQ Distinguished Service Medal for his lifetime of service to ASQ.
In 2008 the Clerk’s Office in Chicago awarded Vora the 2nd Asian American Community Leadership Award.
In 2005, he received the ASQ E. Jack Lancaster Medal for International Quality Contributions.
In 2001, he received the ASQ Eugene L. Grant Medal for Quality Management Education.
In 1968 he received J. N. Tata Endowment Scholarship for Higher Education in USA,
Philanthropy
Vora established the Blind Foundation for India (BFI) in 1989, where he is also President. The organization has raised more than $4 million, which has enabled it to perform 150,000 free cataract operations, purchased 115 mobile vans for conducting eye camps, distributed 10,000 Braille kits to blind children and helped over a million visually-impacted people in India. Since 1970, he has raised over $10 million for a variety of charitable and professional causes.
Between 1986 and 1999, Vora was also Chairman of "Save The Children Holiday Fund Drive" at AT&T Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies, sponsoring 52 children in 19 countries globally.
Other projects he led include: blankets for East Pakistani Refugees, clothing for the poor, drinking water projects in India, and medicine and technology transfer to Seth G. S. Medical College and K.E.M.
Hospital, Mumbai.

Vora has written articles for various publications.
These include: the UK’s Total Quality Management Journal and TQM Magazine, as well as the ASQ Quality Engineering Journal, ASQ Quality Progress Magazine, American Institute of Chemical Engineers Journal, India Abroad, Oil & Gas Journal, World Oil, and International Petroleum Encyclopedia.
He has published over 60 articles in professional journals and symposia proceedings.
