Early Life and Education
Mattmann is originally from Santa Clarita, CA. [undefined] He attended the University of Southern California where he earned a B.S. in computer science in 2001, M.S. in computer science in 2003, and a PhD in computer science in 2007. [undefined] Mattmann's thesis was titled Software Connectors for Highly Distributed and Voluminous Data-Intensive Systems. [undefined]
Career
He co-invented one of the most widely used software frameworks for content detection and analysis titled Apache Tika along with Jérôme Charron, and later wrote a book about it named Tika in Action with Jukka Zitting, which is published by Manning Publications.
Chris was also one of the principal developers of the Object Oriented Data Technology platform and first Vice President of the project when it was donated to the Apache Software Foundation from NASA JPL in 2011. [undefined] [undefined]
Dr. Mattmann's work has also been utilized for a number of space missions including the NASA Orbiting Carbon Observatory 1/2, NPP Sounder PEATE, and the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) Earth science missions. [undefined]
More recently, his work has been focussed on Dark Web and automated data processing technologies and he has been working with DARPA and NASA JPL on the Memex project which involves data discovery and dissemination from the Dark Web. [undefined] [undefined]
