Cathy Areu is an American author, journalist and frequent news analyst who has appeared on HLN's Showbiz Tonight, HLN's Prime News, CNN's Campbell Brown, CNN's *AC360 *, Fox News'*The O'Reilly Factor *, MSNBC's *The Daily Rundown * and RussiaToday's *CrossTalk *. She was a contributing editor for the *Washington Post Magazine * from 2000 to 2008.

Early Life & Education
Areu is the daughter of Cuban immigrants, an electronic engineer and a mathematician, who worked as a scientist for Bell Labs for 28 years.
Areu received her B.A. in English literature from Florida State University, where she was a staff writer for Florida Flambeau.
Before graduating, Areu also published a piece on women's rights for a sociology/anthropology journal.
Areu married her college boyfriend Nick Hope.
Areu earned an M.S. degree in English Education from Nova Southeastern University, while working as an adult education and Spanish teacher for Dekalb County Schools.
Upon graduation, Areu taught high school English, ESL, and journalism for Palm Beach County schools, while covering local news for the Chicago Tribune's Sun-Sentinel newspaper.
In 1995, Areu divorced and in 1996 she married David Jones In 1998, Areu moved to The Netherlands and taught "Writing for Publication" for the University of Utrecht.
In 2009, Areu and her husband had her first daughter, Sofia and in 2011, they had their second daughter, Cristina.
They currently reside in Summit, NJ and enjoy an active community lifestyle.
Career
Since 2000, Areu has been a contributing editor for The Washington Post Magazine, profiling the most famous and influential political figures in U.S. politics, for the column "First Person Singular."
Her interview subjects have included First Lady Laura Bush, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Al Franken, and Secretary of State James Baker.
Areu is probably best known as the founding publisher of *Catalina Magazine *, a multi-platform media company "for the mind, body, and soul of today's Latina."
Founded in 2001, Catalina Magazine was created to portray a positive image of U.S.
Hispanic women and men in media and entertainment.
Folio magazine named Catalina a "Lead Launch" in the magazine's first year.
Catalina cover models have included Daisy Fuentes, Natalie Morales, Mario Lopez, Ricardo Antonio Chavira, and Maria Conchita Alonso.
In 2006, Areu's first book, Latino Wisdom, a collection of inspirational stories by the nation's best known Hispanic figures, was published by Barricade Books.
In 2017, Areu returned to the classroom and is teaching English and ESL to 9th Graders at North Bergen High School in New Jersey.
