Zeppelin is an open-source framework for Solidity and Ethereum Smart contracts. [1]

Features

The framework contains methods for creating ERC20 Tokens, crowdsales, and specific functions such as safe-math which prevents Overflow and Underflow attacks.[2]

As of January of 2018, there were over 100 contributors, with thousands of forks. [2]

Zeppelin has been used in contracts such as Augur, OmiseGO, Civic and a host of other Cryptocurrencies worth over $20B.[2]

Methods

The contract allows users to implement the frameworks created by the Zeppelin team.[2]

Lifecycle

These contracts allow users to pause/unpause contracts, terminate them and destroy tokens.[1]

Math

These solidity files allow users to perform math functions needed to create and issue tokens. [1]

Ownership

If the creator of the contract wishes to transfer ownership of the contract, they are able to do so with these methods. Additionally, they can set the contract to transfer to an heir upon the original contract owner's death.[1]

This element can pose serious security risks by allowing ownership to be transferred to a malicious actor, potentially resulting in a loss of funds. [1]
