On the morning of December 7th, 2016, The parents of month-old Timothy Harmon, left him to be cared for by Willa Wickerson. It was around 8:00 a.m. in the 6600 Block of South Racine when he dropped off.
After 15 minutes of being with the baby, Wickerson became what some have reported as "Irate". She proceeded to attempt to treat the child -to get him to stop crying, but the crying continued in a frenzy. She had tried everything to soothe his ailments. According to reports, Wickerson then abruptly clenched her closed fist and laid a punch in the stomach of little Timothy. She became so enraged that she picked up the baby and threw him down onto a car seat. Hours later, at about 2 p.m., she realized that Timothy was unresponsive and called the baby's mother. She told her that little Timothy was not breathing. The mother ended up calling 911.
Officers were called to help assist paramedics in treating the infant. Harmon was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he died at 2:39 p.m. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide by child abuse. Police reports state that the baby doesn't show any signs of trauma.
Prosecutors have laid down the gruesome details about the baby. They say the baby had hemorrhaging in his brain, liver, right kidney and colon, along with broken ribs.
The relatives of Wickerson have stated that she would never do anything like this. "My auntie raised five generations of kids, infants. She never did anything like this before. They forced my auntie to say she did something that she did not do," Aamaree Taylor, her Wickerson's niece stated. The family has said that the baby was injured before Wickerson arrived at the home.
Wickerson was taken into custody about 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday December 14th, in the block where she lives, police said. She's been charged with first-degree murder, and is now being held on a $1 million bond.
