Tom Sanzone, Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton leads the firm’s commercial financial services business. His 25+ year career in the financial services industry spans from programmer analyst to Chief Information officer (CIO) and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at some of the world’s largest global financial institutions. Mr. Sanzone is a recognized expense management and efficiency expert. He has designed and run multiple programs that have achieved over one billion dollars in bottom-line savings while improving efficiency. Prior to joining Booz Allen, Mr. Sanzone served as the CAO for Merrill Lynch, reporting to the CEO as part of the 7-person management committee running the firm. He joined Merrill in July 2008 and was responsible for global technology, operations, and corporate services. This represented a team of over 20,000 people (a third of the total Merrill Lynch workforce) and the largest non-compensation expense base in the bank. Mr. Sanzone worked daily with the management committee helping steer the company through the financial crisis which eventually led to the landmark merger with Bank of America. After the merger of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch was announced, Mr. Sanzone ran the highly successful merger program, partnering with the future CEO of Bank of America. The program covered every division in both companies and focused on all key decisions including personnel selection, identifying and capturing significant cost savings, and platform integration. Prior to Merrill, Mr. Sanzone joined Credit Suisse in 2005 where he was the CIO and a member of the Executive Board. He was also responsible for the corporate sourcing program and ran all offshore locations, which contained functions from all areas of the bank, including the business lines. He was charged with strategically leveraging technology globally across the bank, including the enablement of new business lines, the enhancement of technology for the existing businesses, the automation of critical processes, the improvement and efficiency of the bank’s technology infrastructure, and the improvement of the bank’s overall control environment. Before joining Credit Suisse, Mr. Sanzone worked at Citigroup, where he was CIO for the Corporate and Investment Bank, the Private Client Group, and the Global Transaction Services business. In that role, he was responsible for the strategy, development and implementation of all application technology. Additionally, he was responsible for Real Estate and General Services. In 1984, Mr. Sanzone joined Salomon Brothers as a programmer analyst and rose through the ranks to become Senior Operating Officer for Fixed Income and Equity Sales Trading in 1991. He was then appointed Managing Director and Head of Global Application Development in 1996. Following the creation of Salomon Smith Barney, he continued to lead the Capital Markets Development group. In that role, he was instrumental in the merger-related systems consolidations of Nikko Salomon Smith Barney, Citicorp, Schroders, Copelco, and the Associates. Mr. Sanzone has a B.S. degree in computer science from Hofstra University. [+]
