Once upon a time, a young golden-haired teen wanted to be able to talk to the Korean students at his school, which had an exchange program in place for reasons other than international dating (although we can’t be sure.)

This Stonewall, Louisiana-born-and-bred American/American boy became so fluent in the language that he decided to take his act on the YouTube road and post some songs sung in his newly acquired dialect.

Three years and one crazy discovered-by-Korean-producers-with-ensuing-popstar-career-in-Korea-adventure later, Shay Bailiff decided to come home and start a band.

He enlisted his high school buddies, Jacob and Micheal, and his twin brother Grayson, and Shayliff was born.

Keeping tribute to the name that brought Shay so much success in Korea, the band Shayliff has released two EPs and two full-length albums in just the three years since its inception. They have opened for The Fray, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, 3Oh!3, and have headlined multiple shows in the South with local artists from Austin, TX to Baton Rouge La. The release of their latest full length album, “Why Don’t You Like Me?” comes at the height of their growing local popularity and features the crowd-riling smash, “Mona Lisa,” which has also been featured on local radio stations.

Drawing on such influences as Kings of Leon, Band of Skulls, Foo Fighters, and Muse, and with continuing dedication to practicing and writing their asses off, Shayliff has certainly found a sweet spot for creating music that can be sometimes fun, sometimes experiential, occasionally gibberish, but always honest. We hope you enjoy the music as something both familiar and new, something you can sometimes bang the steering wheel to, and something you can relate to. [+]
