Back in 1999, Karen was a single mom. To make ends meet she was waiting tables, teaching group fitness classes, and strumming her guitar in between working and caring for her son. It was while working at the restaurant that she met Sean and his soon to be wife (now ex-wife obviously). They were regular customers along with Sean’s family. Sean and his ex-wife decided to hold their rehearsal dinner at said restaurant and had requested Karen to be one of the servers. They learned through conversation that both Sean & Karen played music, so one night after Karen's shift, Sean & Karen played an open mic together at the bar across the street.
Sean married soon after and Karen moved with her son closer to Chicago and began recording demos and doing voice over work with a Russian production duo. They were each doing their thing yet their hearts longed for something else.... Then in 2003, about to move back to the suburbs of Chicago, Karen got an unexpected and serendipitous phone call from Sean. His marriage did not work out and he found her phone number while going through his things when moving out of his house. He called to see if it was still a working number. It was, and after a flowing conversation, Karen invited Sean to a show she was doing at Uncommon Ground in Chicago. Soon after, they began playing together and since they made such beautiful music as a couple, they decided after two months of dating to get married. Sean decided to quit the metal band he was playing with...and the rest, as they say, is history. [+]
