In July 2014 he filmed the video of Eric Garner being killed by NYPD police officers in broad daylight. The video went viral and showed the true state of unnecessary police brutality in the United States against people of color. [+] The officers involved were not charged and remain free.
Arrest and Jail Sentence
Orta is currently incarcerated at Franklin Correctional Facility, serving a 4 year sentence after he pleaded guilty in Staten Island court to drugs and weapons charges in 2016, after filming Garner's shooting.
Orta says he is beaten by police and sentenced to solitary confinement as retaliation for videotaping Garner's death.
