She was a journalist at The New York Times from 2004 to 2017. From 2013 to 2017, she was the European culture correspondent, based in Paris, covering culture high and low across the Continent and beyond. 
Donadio joined The Times in 2004 as a reporter-editor with the Book Review and has contributed widely across the paper, including to The New York Times Magazine. 
She reported front-page stories from Budapest, Naples, Barcelona, and Oświęcim. Surveyed the art scenes of Brussels and Beirut. She also interviewed novelists and film directors written about censorship in Russia and Turkey.
