When she was in eighth grade, she created a Backstreet Boys fan site. She came in third place in a fan site contest and got to meet them. In high school, she created a fan group for J.D. Williams who played Bodie on The Wire. She had the chance to meet him and he took me to have lunch at IHOP. At that point in my life I noticed this Internet thing was giving me the chance to check-off goals off of my bucket list. Once she started working for DipSet, she realized you could monetize off of this platform if you understand how to engage your audience.
While working for Diplomat Records, she helped several artists with their online branding and social media. Once she left the label, she worked directly with artists and noticed many artists were overlooked and underrated if they weren’t in XXL or The Source. In 2008, she started KarenCivil.com interviewing artists like Nicki Minaj and Drake before they were huge.
She got the MTV MVP hip-hop award and Sway announced her name and showed my photo on TV. Another was when she received three awards during Grammy weekend. She worked with Young Money Cash Money Billionaires to create a larger social influence for the Live Civil label.
Her theme song: My own song, “Living Civil,” and “Wide Awake” by Katy Perry.
