Mohammed started his career in 1998 as a Financial analyst at The Endicott Group. From 2003 to 2008, he was a News Editor and Reporter at Dow Jones. From 2008 to 2011, he served as a News Editor at The Wall Street Journal. From 2011 to 2015 Mohammed worked at Bloomberg as an Editor. In 2015 he joined Business Insider as a Deputy editor. From 2016 to 2018, he worked as an Executive Editor there. In 2016, he served as an Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. From 2018 and until now, Mohammed has been a News director at The New York Times. 
Mohammed holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from University of Richmond and M.P.A in Communication and Media Studies from Columbia University - School of International and Public Affairs.
