Canadian artist Mimi Oz began songwriting in 2011 with the release of her first record titled “Three of Swords”, a love story dedicated to her brief period of time living and falling in love with Mexico City in 2009. Mimi caught the attention of songwriter/Canadian icon “Bob Wiseman”, at Toronto’s Tranzac club. She collaborated with Wiseman, co writing and arranging her then poems and rough ideas into fully produced songs, with rich arrangements.

Mimi sings in Spanish and English, writing intimately about love, jumping between/blending genres and trying pretty much everything. She has been known to bust out a vocal trumpet solo when there is no accompanying horn, and sing in character voices. “Three of Swords”, was latino balladry mixed with pop folk, and dark folk elements. Her latest record is a mash of Blues, Jazz, Alt Country Rock, Folk Pop.

In 2013 she relocated to New York City to write new material. Her newest record “Men Who Never Loved Me”, is a sassy comedic collection of songs about heartbreak, obsessions, and failed romances. The album is largely self produced, a few are co-produced by Canadian songwriter and percussionist Don Kerr. Mimi received a grant from the Ontario arts council’s popular music program for her latest record, and since then has completed 2 regional tours, to Canada and the southern US. Mimi is taking her new record on the road again in the Spring 2016, and touring Italy/France/Spain in Summer 2016 with her creative partner, visual artist & Animator,
“Edwin Chavez”.

Mimi is busy on a New EP with her NY band Rooster titled, “Baby On The J”. This project will be released Summer of 2016.

“Mimi Oz actually has the potential to be that rare artist that can take something real into that other world, you know, the one where they give out Grammy Awards”, JJ Hayes, Boog City.
