“I was mesmerized from the first moment I heard them. They have the ability to create a deep sonic landscape with only voice and guitar, with songs that posses a mysterious and soulful magic. “
~ Pat Sansone of Wilco.
Max Hatt / Edda Glass feature evocative vocals, ethereal guitar, and their original folk-jazz compositions. “We want to write about a world both intimate and vast, about little people on great plains,” says Glass. “Plus sometimes we like to throw in a little Bossa Nova.”
In 2014 Max Hatt / Edda Glass played at Lincoln Center, NYC, won grand-prize at the Mountain Stage / NewSong Contest and generally defied categorization. 2015 will see them perform at Sundance Film Festival’s ASCAP Music Cafe, NPR Mountain Stage, and in concert at Lincoln Center, NYC. NewSong Recordings will release their new album this fall, produced by Pat Sansone of Wilco & Autumn Defense, and recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. They have this to say: We're interested in narrative. How a melody comes home soundly to a place it didn’t grow up. How a major chord troubles your sleep with minor insinuations. How we look to the horizon, no matter how wide the plain between us.
“Mesmerizing cinematic folk-jazz”
~ Erik Philbrook, Editor in Chief, Playback Magazine, regarding Max Hatt / Edda Glasss performance at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, ASCAP’s Music Cafe.
“Max Hatt/Edda Glass often defied categorization, making them arguably the most distinctive finalist act – let alone winner – we’ve ever had.”
~ Gar Ragland, NewSong Contest Director
“Unique voices and rare musicians”
~Eric Funk, composer and host of MT-PBS’s 11th & Grant
