Lucid Motors is a California-based electric car company. Their first car, The Air, was announced December 2016. It is a fully electric sedan aimed at the “executive” market, with a 400-mile range rating from its onboard 100kWh battery, a 2.5-second 0-60 mph time and a target market date of 2018. [2]


Lucid’s founders are CTO Peter Rawlinson, a former Tesla Motors team member who was involved in the development of the Model S, Derek Jenkins, who worked previously at Mazda and Volkswagen, and former BMW designer Brian Barron.


Lucid is planning to launch its first factory in 2017 in Arizona. The cars will have combined 1,000 horsepower across electric motors. The Air is expected to cost around $100K. [2]


Lucid has a partnership with Samsung SDI Co Ltd, the battery-focused subsidiary of the Korean tech giant.


Lucid has raised over $130 million across three rounds of venture funding, including from the China Environmental Fund[3]
