Lara started her career in 1994 as an Associate in Telecommunications, Media & Technology at Merrill Lynch. From 1996 to 1999, she worked as a Product manager at Silicon Graphics. For 10 years, from 2000 to 2010, she served as a General partner at Allegis Capital. In 2009, she was named by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal as one of the "2009 Women of Influence in Silicon Valley". In 2010, Lara became a Founding Partner of G&B Partners, an investment and advisory firm focused on private technology companies.
From 2011 to 2013, Lara was an Investor in Residence at US Venture Partners. From 2011 to 2016, Lara had a position of the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at City of San Jose Retirement System Board of Trustees.
