Zona Man
Zona Man
Early Life
Zona Man hails from Chicago and he grew up loving music. He once lived his with his Grandma, a period when everything changed for him. He started rapping as early as 2013. In 2015, he met Future who later signed him into the Freebandz group that same year. He discussed meeting with Future during an interview:
“We just met through the streets, man.
We just locked in and linked up.
Shit, it just happened.
It wasn’t anything planned or nothing.
We just linked up, and it just turned out to be what it is.
That’s my brother.
He reached out to me.
I reached back to him.
We’ve just been locked in ever since.
It’s like one big family.”
Career
Zona Man signed a deal with Future's Freebandz label in 2015. "Mean To Me," was recorded in Zona Man's East Chicago living room while Future was in town with the Jungle Tour. "The record just happened," Zona told The FADER.[3]
"Future came up with this crazy vibe for the song and just started recording in the middle of the living room with us.
We thought it would be dope to put the youngest in charge, Lil Durk, with the wave he has at right now on the record as well.
And the rest, as they say, was history.[4]
The East Chicago rapper released his EP titled "'Bout Time" in 2018. The seven track effort features a star-studded guest list with verses from the likes of Future, Tory Lanez, and Young Thug. Producers Southside, D. Brooks, Oz on the Track, Donn Robb, Lil Mexico and C-Sick handled the EP's brooding sound[6][7]. He made sure to hook listeners in with the very first song off the project, "Grandma House," featuring Thugger and Lanez. The theme of the track is self-explanatory. The Chicago native recalls his life before rap music where everything essentially revolved around his grandma's house.[5]
