Zach Hollywood grew up in Bradley, Illinois but moved to the town next door, Bourbonnais, in his youth. [3]He attended Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School and was a standout athlete. During his senior season, he averaged 17.5 points a game for his school's basketball team. He graduated in 2016. [3]
Zach went on to become a student-athlete at Ball State and majored in Special Education. [12]One of his biggest supporters on and off the court was his mother, who passed away in 2016. [12]After being red-shirted his freshman season, Zach was expected to play a significant role in the upcoming 2017-2018 season. [12]In his free time, Zach enjoyed hanging out with family and friends. He is remembered for his relentless work ethic, passion for basketball, and kindness towards others. [3]
Death
On August 22, 2017, just before 1:00 pm, Zach Hollywood was found dead in his off-campus residence located at Varsity House Apartments in the 3000 block of North Oakwood Avenue in Muncie, Indiana. [13]Prior to his death, Hollywood sent out a series of cryptic tweets including "Just so everyone knows I did not cheat. If you want the truth ask tony or the police because they'll have my phone" and "Be careful what you say to everyone because you don't know what kind of battles they are going through." [14]Investigators believe that Zach's death was a suicide. [13]
