The yellow vests movement (French: Mouvement des gilets jaunes, pronounced [ʒilɛ ʒon]) is a political movement that began in France and started regular mass demonstrations on 17 November. ^[1] The movement was caused by an increase in diesel taxes, high cost of living and growing dissatisfaction with Emmanuel Macron. ^[1] By December 2018, protesters from around the world started using yellow vests to protest similar problems with other governments.
