X Æ A-Xii (born on May 4, 2020) is the son of Elon Musk and musician Grimes, whose real name is Claire Bouchet. He was originally named X Æ A-12, but was changed to X Æ A-Xii to conform with California state laws. The unique name is pronounced "Ex Ash A-Twelve Musk." .
Grimes explained the unconventional moniker, saying that the X stands for "the unknown variable," Æ stands for "an elven spelling of Ai," and A-Xii (A-12) is the precursor to the SR-71 aircraft. [1]

His mother explained that X stands for "the unknown variable," Æ stands for "an elven spelling of Ai," and A-Xii (A-12) is the precursor to SR-71 (his parents' favorite aircraft). [16]

The A-Xii (A-12) stands for Archangel, so Musk suggests he could also be called "X Ash Archangel Twelve." Æ is originally a Latin symbol that now forms part of a the alphabet in some languages, including Danish, Norwegian and Icelandic. Pronunciation varies; some say it as “ash” and other as the letters A and E.

Government of California’s Statement over the name 'X Æ A-12'
The state of California stated that the name X Æ A-12, for the newborn child of Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX chief, Elon Musk and singer Grimes is not compatible with current state health codes. The duo announced the name on Twitter following the baby boy's birth on May 4th, 2020.
Matt Conens, from the Office of Public Affairs of the California Department of Public Health, wrote in an email to USA Today:
"A name like 'X Æ A-12' would not be allowed [...] Vital records must be completed with the 26 alphabetical characters of the English language and appropriate punctuation such as hyphens, apostrophes, periods, and commas." [14]
