On March 8, 2012, Governor Matthew Mead made history by signing Wyoming House Bill 87 into law creating the Wyoming State Board of Mixed Martial Arts.
It is Wyoming's sanctioning body for combat sports.Wyoming is the first state in the country to create a state board for mixed martial arts.
Like other state athletic and boxing commissions,the board oversees and regulates mixed martial arts in Wyoming.
Fighter safety and development of the combat sports industry are their top priorities.[6] It is also known as the Wyoming Combat Sports Commission.
On June 2, 2018 Wyoming held the first sanctioned barkeknuckle boxing matches in 130 years.[1] Promoter David Feldman was integral in the process.
Feldman is president of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. He worked in conjuction with Nick Meeker and Jeremy Arneson of The Wyoming State Board of Mixed Martial Arts to properly sanction the event.[9]
