Murder
William was charged with murder of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter, Jordan Ann Dumont. After the remains of a young girl were found in a forest near where the girl went missing. [3]
Police believe the remains belong to Jordan who had gone missing on August 15, 2016.
More than 100 volunteers had been out looking for her before Gaston County Police Department Chief Joseph Ramey announced the grim result of the search. [2]
The remains were found walking distance from the house where William had told police that he had put the 3-year-old down for a nap.
He said that the child was gone when he woke up two and a half hours later.
Chief Joseph said at a Tuesday afternoon press conference that they believe Dumont was dead before she was placed in the woods and that she had died in the 36 hours before she was found.
Chief Joseph also said that it was still too early to say whether Jordan's mother is a suspect.
Police had been called to the house where she lived 49 times over the last three years, including incidents of domestic disturbances and theft, Ramey said.
