Westley Banks was an American college student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Life and Activities

Banks hailed from Gurnee, Illinois. He graduated from Warren Township High School. [1]

After high school, Banks went on to attend University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where he was majoring in Musicology. [1]

He worked as a barista at Caribou Coffee. [1] Friends remember him as being passionate about music, handsome, smart, beautiful, intense, and intuitive. [1]

On April 19, 2017 at around 2:47 a.m., Banks committed suicide by setting himself on fire on the rooftop near the outdoor amphitheater of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, Illinois. [1]

When the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign police arrived, he had severe burns on his entire body and was likely dead. [1]

An autopsy showed burns on his airway and lungs due to the fire. Toxicology results are pending. [1]
