Walmart Incident
On September 11th, 2016, at a Walmart parking lot in Shawnee, two people attempted to rob the car of a woman who had her child with her.
The woman was attacked as she put her infant in a car seat about 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the store near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Maurer Road.
She was struck in the back of the head, and as she screamed, two people came to her aid.
Two passersby came to her aid and shot dead one of the alleged attackers, while one of the other attackers fled the scene.
During the confrontation, one Good Samaritan was shot and is in critical condition at a hospital but he was awake and alert and ready for surgery later in the day.
The second attacker ran east from Walmart, and a suspect was arrested by a K-9 team between Maurer and Lackman roads.
The attack occurred on the east side of the store near the lawn and garden department.
A section of the parking lot remained taped off at 4 p.m. A blue tarp, surrounded by orange cones, covered what apparently was the attacker’s body.
About a dozen vehicles were inside the taped perimeter.
Officers were trying to peer into the windows of one: a maroon SUV with temporary tags.
Macrorie arrived to her car after shopping at the Walmart and filmed with her phone describing the situation as EMT and Shawnee Police Department personnel tend to the dead body of the attacker, and the wounded Good Samaritan.
Macrorie says:
"So this is interesting.
I am at Walmart, which I hate going to, and this is happening in front of my car.
Apparently right in front of my car two men have been shot.
I was inside buying some light bulbs and stuff - an inner tube for my son for his bike and everybody was telling everybody not to go outside.
So you be careful when you're going to Walmart...
This is really scary and insane and grotesque and I am freaked out.
Looks like somebody tried to steal somebody's car is the problem."
