Early Life and Education
A native of Chicago, Illinois and a 2005 alumna of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, Nereim graduated in 2009 with a BA in the History of Art from Yale University where she was a Senior Editor of campus weekly The Yale Herald and Vice President of the Yale Political Union. Career
Following an internship at The Boston Globe, in 2009 Nereim joined the staff of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a general assignment reporter where her investigative reporting on the welfare of children in state-licensed facilities won her the Anna Quindlen Award for Excellence in Journalism on Behalf of Children and Families. In 2011 Nereim relocated to the United Arab Emirates to work as a reporter for The National where she covered social issues including child abuse and domestic violence. Nereim moved to Muscat, Oman in 2013 to study Arabic and work as a freelance journalist, during which time she wrote about Oman for outlets such as Bloomberg News, Agence France-Press, Newsweek Europe, Al Jazeera English, Foreign Policy, and The National.
