Valerie earned her JD from Georgetown University and her Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. [4]
Career
Valerie first worked as a patent lawyer. [2] She served as a special assistant United States attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York. [3] Valerie clerked for federal judges on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and the United States Court of Appeals. [3] Valerie would join the SEC in 1997. [2]
Valerie has served as co-head of the agency’s Dark Web Working group and has worked on several enforcement actions against fraudulent cryptocurrency projects. [2] In addition, she is the Head of the SEC’s Distributed Ledger Technology Working Group. [7] She most recently served as an Assistant Director in the Division of Enforcement’s Cyber Unit. [7]
