Valerie A. Szczepanik is the Associate Director of the Division of Corporation Finance and Senior Advisor for Digital Assets and Innovation at the Securities And Exchange Commission. [1] She is lives in New York City.
Education
Valerie earned her JD from Georgetown University and her Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
Career
Valerie first worked as a patent lawyer.
[1] She served as a special assistant United States attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York. Valerie clerked for federal judges on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and the United States Court of Appeals. Valerie would join the SEC in 1997. [1]
Valerie has served as co-head of the agency’s Dark Web Working group and has worked on several enforcement actions against fraudulent cryptocurrency projects.
[1] In addition, she is the Head of the SEC’s Distributed Ledger Technology Working Group.
She most recently served as an Assistant Director in the Division of Enforcement’s Cyber Unit.
Valerie is currently the Associate Director of the Division of Corporation Finance and Senior Advisor for Digital Assets and Innovation for Division Director Bill Hinman.
