Umaru Fofana
Umaru Fofana is an award-winning journalist based in Sierra Leone, West Africa. He is a correspondent at BBC and Reuters.
Education
Fofana attended Fourah Bay College from 1992-1996, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in International relations and languages.
Career
He is the founder of the FreeMedia Group and has set up a radio station.
He covered the recent West Africa Ebola outbreak for which he won a Peabody Award.
He has won several other awards including being named by his country’s media regulatory body as the Most Outstanding Male Journalist.
Fofana was twice elected president of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, of which he had previously served as secretary-general.
