ULTRA (UOS)
ULTRA (UOS)
ULTRA (UOS) is a Blockchain-based games distribution platform geared towards developers and gamers.[1] Based in Estonia, the company was launched in 2017, as a fork of EOS.[3] Throughout the years, the company has established numerous partnerships with brands within the gaming industry, solidifying its presence beyond the cryptocurrency space.[26]
Background
Ultra Store Front [Closed Beta].
Ultra is based in Estonia and later expanded to an office in Paris. The project was initiated in 2017 and is a fork of EOS. The UOS token was initially issued as an ERC20 token prior to mainnet launch. After its announcement, UOS had achieved 11,000 transactions per second and aims to reach 100,000 by 2020. Since Ultra is a fork of EOS, it will be supported by block producers. The platform has no transaction fees. [3]
Ultra is an ecosystem, that allows anyone to operate their own game distribution platform or virtual goods trading service. The platform consists of a tripartite system involving a desktop app, companion app and a SDK. [4]
Ultra offers a slew of innovative features like improved downloading technology, exclusive games only available on Ultra, the ability to re-sell second-hand digital games, item-trading, the ability to earn cryptocurrency tokens & much more. Tokens can be earned in many ways including installing the mobile app , installing a free-to-play game , trading of digital goods , referring players or devs, participation in betas , viewing ads, participating in rewards program , reporting bugs, and writing reviews .
sharing content on social networks , competing in contests and more.
Developers share increased revenues touted as "21% more than the competition" in the white paper. More importantly, developers are paid instantaneously for the sale of online goods, which gives them the option to reinvest that money in advertising to expand their reach at a critical time. [4]
Partnerships
On November 21st 2019, it was announced that French gaming giant Ubisoft would be an Ultra block producer. Co-CEO Nicolas Gilot said about the partnership:
"Since Ubisoft is already a leader in the games industry and shows commitment to probe blockchain as a viable technology for games, we are very excited to be announcing our first cooperation of this kind with them. Ubisoft’s rich portfolio of world-renowned brands, including Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance and Far Cry, is a testament to their dedication to creating quality content for all, and their years long dedication to exploring blockchain technology ensures they have the knowledge and skills to be excellent block producers."
In December of 2019, AMD and Ultra announced a partnership with AMD where they will cooperate on co-marketing activities. In addition AMD will distribute a mix of AA, AAA, and Indie titles that can be redeemed on Ultra. AMD will also be using their industry experience to optimize cryptographic computing performance. [21]
In September of 2020, Ultra announced its collaboration with Atari. The partnership will consist of the two parties teaming up to make Ultra's platform accessible through the new Atari VCS, a PC/console hybrid entertainment system, which is set to launch later in 2020. Discussing the partnership, Michael Arzt, COO of Atari VCS and Connected Devices, explained,
We look forward to working closely with Ultra to help make the VCS the most blockchain-friendly gaming and entertainment system and to introduce a huge network of gamers and hardware fans to this amazing new frontier.[24]
Ultra Ecosystem
The Ultra Desktop Application
The Ultra Desktop Application was originally slated to be released in the fall of 2019.
It was designed to be familiar to users, featuring everything gamers have come to know from Valve’s Steam—a store, game library, marketplace and social mechanics. [4]
The Ultra Go Companion App
The Ultra Go app is a companion app to the Ultra Desktop Application.
It's scheduled to be released in Q1 2020 and will act as a Discord style messenger with text and voice chat support. The companion app also includes Ultra’s crypto wallet, which enables users to transfer coins and purchase games and items. [3]
The Ultra SDK
The Ultra SDK is a software development kit that allows outside developers to build their own branded storefronts or virtual goods websites powered by UOS without having to understand the underlying technology. The Ultra SDK also gives devs the option to build on all the major game engines and coding languages. It even allows developers to port over existing titles on Steam, Xbox or Playstation to Ultra. [3]
NFTs, Content Distribution Tech and Ad Tech
NFT's are crucial to Ultra's token economy. The Ultra SDK allows developers to instantiate non-fungible tokens to represent virtual items on the blockchain. Developers will be able to decide whether an NFT is tradable or not. They'll even have the option set the timing of when an NFT will be available and what resale revenue share they receive after it's been traded on a secondary marketplace. [3]
The advertising experience is opt-in on Ultra, users can opt out but they won't earn tokens. Ultra's DSP Technology can plug into existing ad exchange networks and buy advertising space from external platforms on behalf of developers. Game publishers can advertise on Ultra and external platforms by using UOS tokens to pay for it. Ultra's ad tech is already developed far along and serves 33 bilion ads a day. [4]
UOS Token
Although the UOS token was initially issued as an ERC20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, it will be the primary digital currency on the Ultra platform. There are 1,000,000,000 total UOS tokens. The multi-purpose token will allow gamers to pay for games and items, create NFTs and transfer value P2P. In Addition ad spending and revenue is paid in UOS, user Rewards and referrals are paid in UOS and mined crypto is converted to UOS .
Team members, investors and partners have to wait for unlocking periods before selling their stake, but people who participated in the IEO have fully unlocked tokens. To benefit the ecosystem of the platform, 5% of all Ultra’s game sales profits are locked for at least 2 years, 10% of all games sales are frozen for 2 months to serve as collateral for refund requests and the 10% company reserve will only be unlocked once Ultra has reached 1 million monthly active users. [5]
Ultra Token held an IEO token sale on July 16th 2019 and raised $5,000,000.
