Tyonne Johns
Tyonne Johns also known as Chef Tyonne Johns was a chef who ran her own catering company called Chef Tyonne. She lived in Washington, DC and was originally from Hopewell, Virginia. [1]
Charity Work
Tyonne Johns would give away extra food from her catering company to the homeless and people who lacked proper nutrition. [2]
Tyonne Johns also assisted as a gym teacher at an elementary school to teach children about eating healthy and staying active. The kids at the school knew her as Coach Ty. [2]
Tyonne attended Empowerment Liberation Cathedral in Silver Spring, Maryland. [5]
Death
On August 6, 2016 Tyonne Johns was fatally stabbed by Kempton Bonds while catering a wedding at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly, Virginia. Chantilly is part of Fairfax County, Virginia. [5]
Kempton Bonds who worked at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park as part of the Fairfax County Park Authority had a dispute with Tyonne over who owned the chairs for the event. When Tyonne was packing away the chairs after the wedding, Kempton said that the chairs belonged to the park while Tyonne said they belonged to her. [5]
The dispute escalated and Kempton Bonds stabbed Tyonne in the upper body with a pocketknife. Tyonne later died at a local hospital from her injuries. [5]
Before that Kempton thought that the wedding Tyonne was catering was too loud. He cut off the power to the wedding as he thought the guests were too loud. He also called the police at 9:24 p.m. to file a complaint of disorderly conduct and excessive noise. [5]
When police arrived, they said the incident had been resolved.
The park authority said that because the wedding had started late in the day, the guests were allowed to stay on the premises later than the usual closing.
Kempton also cut the power to the event in frustration. [5]
Bishop Allyson Abrams from Empowerment Liberation Cathedral, where Tyonne attended remembered her as a “kindhearted, very loving spirit.”
and that “I just hope that justice will prevail."
Symone Spence, a bartender who worked for Tyonne said she served a dazzling last meal: steaming-hot salmon and jerk chicken, complemented by macaroni and cheese and rice pilaf, well-plated and handed out to dozens.
Symone said, “She’s a professional,” and that “It wasn’t haphazard.
Nothing that she did was haphazard.
It was all well thought of.
.
.
everything was beautiful."
Mikaela Robinson, a sous chef for the catering company, was not at Saturday’s event but said Sunday she had fond memories of working alongside Johns.
“She was full of life.
Loving and caring,” she said.
“I was her sous chef, so she was always hard on me because she wanted me to be better than her, but there was no way I would be and never will be.”
A Go Fund Me page was created to raise money for Tyonne Johns's funeral. [2]
