Life and Activities
Tyler Jarrell was the first senior from Franklin Heights High School to enlist into the United States Marine Corps this year.
Death
On July 26, 2017, Tyler died and seven others were seriously injured when an amusement ride, the "Fireball" at the Ohio State Fair malfunctioned on the fair’s opening day.
Tyler was thrown high into the air and landed on the ground about 50 feet from the ride.
He was killed on impact.
Seven other people, including another person seen flying from the ride, are in critical condition and two more are in stable condition. [1]
Three of the injured were taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where two are in critical condition and one in stable condition.
Four injured were transported to Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. Three of those were in critical condition and one in stable condition. [1]
Amusement Ride
The Fire Ball, manufactured by KMG, is billed as an aggressive thrill ride that swings riders 40 feet above the ground while spinning them at 13 revolutions per minute.
