After graduating from university in 2010, Tyler Hoover started his own used car dealership, Ad Astra Automotive. At first he specialized in Jeep Cherokee (XJ) SUVs. He initially found success by operating out of a small warehouse keeping his overhead low and taking the time to pick good quality cars at auctions and then reselling them. He then expanded to fast moving into a big lot with a prime location. This quadrupled his overhead cost causing forcing Hoover to stock much more cars. However as he started buying more cars he began buying lower quality cars causing his reconditioning costs to rise. These rising costs eventually made the business unprofitable. In January 2015, he exited the business. [8] [6]

After leaving the car dealership business, Tyler Hoover began working as an Opening Coordinator & Operations Support for FFC Midwest which owns over 20 Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers franchise locations. While working for the company, Tyler Hoover would often promote new Freddy's locations on local television. In 2018, he left the company to focus more on his YouTube channel and filming a reality television series. [8] [6] [25]

Once he gets back to Kansas, "The Car Wizard" assess the purchase and tells Tyler Hoover about the condition of the car. Tyler Hoover then gets to decide if he wants to keep or sell the car, however if he keeps the car he will have to get rid of another car in "The Hooptie Fleet". Tyler Hoover created the television show with a man named Brandon from the production company, Brightbay Creative.
